How to turn your room into a vacation destination!

The pandemic last year brought many mishaps and with it came a restriction of movement. Although restriction of movement has eased up in a lot of countries, many of them are still observing the lockdown process and a number of borders are still closed (yikes). However, we've decided to not be held down and get creative! Author Dumebi Anene has compiled a list of ways you can revamp your room into a dream destination while on lockdown mode, WhatsApp Image 2021-01-29 at 1.55.40 PM.jpeg 1) Change your room's scent Change the usual smell of your regular bath soap or perfume and put your body at rest with a floral or more earthy scent (check our soap and candle selection here). Essential oil diffusers, scented candles, incense, pot pourri are different means through which you can get your room smelling like the calming outdoors or the inside of a boutique spa. 2) Declutter In order to get that relaxing vacation atmosphere in your bedroom, it's essential that you are able to see the top of your dresser. So sift through the clutter; old receipts, empty perfume bottles, expired cosmetics and so on. Trust me you'll be surprised at how much of a difference it makes to your mind state. 3) Switch up your bed linens Switching out your current bedding for freshly cleaned white linens will help evoke that tranquil calmness of a resort during your staycation. Jump on pinterest for inspo and look for affordable, fun and quirky homewares that tell a story and make you feel a sense of happiness or calmness every time you look at them. 5) Keep it cool: Cooling down the temperature of your bedroom makes it feel like a hotel room. You could crank up the air conditioning a little more at night before bed or leave a window open if it's safe. Letting out the stale air will be good for your lungs and mind. 6) Have a mini snack station Baby girl you've got to eat! Breakfast in bed and midnight snacks is all part of having a vacation. Make both accessible by adding a healthy but fun snack station in your bedroom. Stock up on your favorite healthy treats and you'll never want to leave. Add further ambience Music is a proven way to change your mood, so invest in some speakers and put together a playlist to represent the mood you're trying to convey. Want to feel like you're back in Brazil? Search up some sweet samba tunes to get your hips moving and heart fluttering. 8. Rest: In case you forgot, you're taking a vacation to rest and rejuvenate yourself. Try new things; read an uplifting book, binge-watch all your favorite shows, write out your thoughts or simply spend the morning in your pjs with a cup of Joe and delicious hot toast. Make your staycation a vacation to remember.Anything that reminds you of your workplace or your work should be hidden. Put your work shoes at the back of the shoe rack, your work files at the bottom of your stacks of books. The goal is to put your mind and body at rest and seeing anything that reminds of work can deter that. Happy house-holiday! Author: Dumebi Anene
